More Information about Cedar Key BnB and the area
Cedar Key Bed & Breakfast is Trip Advisor's # 1 rated bed and breakfast in Cedar Key Florida.  This historic bed and breakfast was built for the Eagle Pencil Company's superintendent. In 1880.  Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Cedar Key is the second oldest city in Florida. This tropical region features an historic seaport with several fine seafood restaurants and interesting gift shops and art galleries. In the 1800's Cedar Key was a bustling city of nearly 4000 souls connected to it's sister city of Fernandina Beach via Henry Flagler's and David Levy Yulee's (Florida's first senator)  railroad. Cedar Key was known for its cedar which was used for making pencils.  Eagle Cedar Mill and the Eberhardt Faber mill were the prominent pencil mills in Cedar Key.  Today, Cedar Key's primary industries are clam farming and tourism.   Among the things to do are: boating, air boats, sailing, kayaking, fish off our new fishing pier or go flats fishing where the catch of the day is, red fish, trout, cobia, Spanish mackerel, sheeps head, mullet and many more species.  Go out further and get your catch of grouper, tarpon, shark and more! Clam farming is big in Cedar Key...We are the number one clam farming community in the United States. Scalloping is coming back slowly, but can be found in abundance a short drive North of Cedar Key up near the Suwannee River (Made famous by legendary composer, Stephen Foster, who wrote the song “Way down upon the Swanee river”.  Explore the outlying uninhabited islands. Birding or bird watching is fabulous here with many species making their homes here...Eagles, Egrets, herons,Frigate birds, brown and white Pelicans , Rosette Spoonbills and many more.  There are lots of dolphins to watch jumping and playing as you take a boat tour or kayak…You might even see an occasional manatee! (Hommossa State Park guarantees a close up look at manatees and Crystal River is where you can swim with them!) Other points of interests are:   We have our famous Arts festival in April, which is juried, the October Seafood Festival, Clammerica or (ClamAmerica) 4th of July, Cedar Key's Seahorse Lighthouse (built by George Meade)  is open twice yearly.  We have two museums in town.   The state museum features civil war artifacts as well as a time line of Cedar Key's varied history dating back to the Indian civilizations (we have an ancient Indian burial mound in town) as well as pre-historic times. The city museum is being renovated and should be done by late spring 2009.
